1. The Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was an Apple

Genesis 3:6 merely describes Eve eating some of the “fruit” and sharing it with Adam.

2. There Were Three Wise Men

The Bible only tells us that there were three gifts and more than one magi (Matthew 2:1-12). They arrived much later, when Mary, Joseph, and Jesus had already moved to a house in Bethlehem.

3. A Whale Swallowed Jonah

Jonah 1:17 says that God sent a “great fish” to take Jonah in the right direction.

4. Money is the Root of All Evil

1 Timothy 6:10 actually says that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

5. This Too Shall Pass

It’s likely that people have gotten it confused with the phrase “it came to pass” that appears over 400 times in the King James Version or the sentiment from 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.

6. Cleanliness is Next to Godliness

Sure, the Old Testament contains lots of rules about ritual cleanliness, but this biblical-sounding proverb is nowhere to be found in Scripture.

7. God Works in Mysterious Ways

Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us that God’s ways are different from ours. But no biblical prophet ever uttered those words.

8.Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin

In the 5th Century, Augustine wrote a line which translates roughly to “with love for mankind and hatred of sins.” Later, Ghandi, a practitioner of Hindiusm said, “hate the sin and not the sinner.” Still, both loving sinners and hating sin are biblical (Matthew 5:43-44, Psalm 97:10).

9. Be in the World, but Not of the World

Parts of the sentiment are, however, expressed in various places in Scripture (John 15:19, John 17:14-15, Romans 12:1-2). Just don’t try to find that word-for-word as a verse in your Bible.

10. God Will Not Give You More Than You Can Handle

This is the result of trying to sum up 1 Corinthians 10:13, but that’s not what that verse or any other verse in the Bible teaches us. Paul’s words tells them God will provide a way of escape from temptation.

11. God Helps Those Who Help Themselves

The message of Romans 5:8 is the exact opposite. While we were still sinners and unable to help ourselves, Christ died for us—proving how much God loves us, how amazing grace is, and how incapable of helping ourselves we truly are.

12. The Lion Shall Lay Down With the Lamb

Isaiah 11:6 says, “And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little boy will lead them.” Similarly, Isaiah 65:25 reads, “The wolf and the lamb will graze together and the lion will eat straw like an ox…”

13. No Rain Before the Flood

Genesis 2:5–6 states that “the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground”. All that can really be said is that no rain had fallen up to that time—that is, prior to the creation of man.

14. Jesus Went to Hell Between His Death and Resurrection

Some have the viewpoint that Jesus went to “hell” or the suffering side of sheol/hades in order to further be punished for our sins. This idea is completely unbiblical. His soul/spirit went to hades (the place of the dead). Jesus went to “Abraham’s side” or the blessed side of hades. Jesus’ suffering ended the moment He died. The payment for sin was paid. He then awaited the resurrection of His body and His return to glory in His ascension. Did Jesus go to hell? No. Did Jesus go to sheol/hades? Yes.

15. Adam and Eve Walked With God in the Garden

Genesis 3:8: “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” (NKJV). This verse appears immediately after our first parents rebelled against the Creator. They are not taking a leisurely stroll with God, they are hiding from Him as He comes to announce His judgment.

16. We Must Feel God’s Presence (So You Can Know He’s Real)

There are no verses about feeling, experiencing or “being intoxicated” by God’s presence.

17. We Must Have a “Personal, Intimate and Emotional Encounter With God”.

There are no verses telling us that we’re supposed to have a personal, intimate and emotional encounter with God.

18. The Church should Conform to the Pagan Culture

There are no verses telling the church to conform to the pagan culture. The word “church” comes from the word “ekklesia” which means “gathering” or “called out ones.”

19. The Holy Spirit Wants to Make Us Act Drunk and Out of Control

There are no verses saying that the Holy Spirit wants to make us act drunk and out of control.

20. We Are Commanded to Muster Up Intense Fervor to Show How Serious We Are About Serving God

There are no verses telling us to muster up intense fervor so we can show God how serious we are.

21. A Great End Times Revival That Features New Apostles Who Will Do Great Healings, Signs and Wonders.

There are no Bible verses that tell us to expect a great end-times revival that features new and better Apostles. All of the Bible verses are warning us about a great falling away with false teachers leading many astray by doing miraculous signs and wonders in the name of Jesus.
